Vancouver: A Canmore, Alberta teenaged Kayaker Peter Thompson , is presumed dead after going over a waterfall on the Cheakamus River near Whistler and not resurfacing.
He was reportedly acting as the head coach for the Bow Valley Kayak Club, teaching the sport to kids with disabilities, and paddling all over the world.
On September 28, Whistler RCMP received a report of a missing kayaker on the Cheakamus River south of Whistler. A group of 3 kayakers had been paddling a section of the river when one of them went over a small waterfall. He went under the water and did not resurface. His friends attempted to locate him but were unsuccessful in doing so. Police, Fire, Ambulance and Whistler Search and Rescue all attended however were unable to locate the male or his kayak.
Peter Thompson, as identified by friends and the kayaking community now mourning his loss, is remembered as a very experienced lovable persons.His paddle and life jacket were found, but neither Thompson nor his boat reappeared.
