Disabled man Shawn Gallaher dies in fire on Carlton Street at Tobias house

Toronto: A disabled 44-year-old man Shawn Gallaher, who was on wheelchair died after fire broke out inside an apartment on Carlton Street near Church at the building, known as Tobias House, which has many residents who are wheelchair users, as well as others who need assistance.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

Shawn Gallaher, 44, who used a wheelchair and oxygen assistance, was found dead in his ninth-floor unit at 84 Carlton St. Tuesday around 10 p.m.

He was disabled and had a tube in his neck to breathe.

Tobias House,is a social services agency that provides 24-hour support to people with physical disabilities. Firefighters said the resident was at home at the time of the fire.
