Toronto: A 42-year-old woman Cindy Ann Sherry Ali faces a first-degree charged in connection with the death of her disabled daughter, Cynara Amiee Ali, 16,who died in February 2011.
Cindy Ann Sherry Ali, also faces seven charges including manslaughter,criminal negligence causing death and two counts of fabricating evidence.She was arrested Wednesday morning, and scheduled to appear in court today.
Cynara Ali died in hospital with no visible injuries. Ali had told police that two armed men with Jamaican accents broke in to their Malvern townhouse and rummaged through cupboards looking for a package. When they fled, Ali noticed her immobile daughter was not breathing.Cynara Amiee Ali, who had cerebral palsy, was taken to hospital and died the next day.
More than a year later, police said they believed Ali had made up the home invasion story.
The upgraded charges were announced by Toronto Police Service on Wednesday morning, just before Ali was scheduled to appear in a Toronto court.
