Csilla Yit charged for human trafficking

Toronto: Investigators from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Greater Toronto (GTA) Area Immigration and Passport Section have arrested and charged Csilla Yit with human trafficking and employing foreign nationals offences, contrary to the Criminal Code and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

The RCMP commenced their investigation in July 2012 after receiving a complaint of potential human trafficking.The subsequent investigation led to identifying three alleged victims of human trafficking and four persons who were unlawfully employed by YIT at her restaurant.

It is alleged that victims were promised employment and good wages prior to coming from Hungary to Canada, and once in Canada were forced to work without pay; live in unsuitable accommodations without adequate food supplies; and live in fear from threats of arrest and deportation, should they not comply.

Csilla , 39 , from Hamilton, Ontario is charged with:

• Three counts of Human trafficking contrary to the Criminal Code.

• Withholding or destroying a document contrary to the Criminal Code.

• Theft over $5000.00 contrary to the Criminal Code.

• Four counts of employing a foreign national contrary to the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
