Matthew Sweet Grant & Joshua McWhirter charged after man burned
Vancouver: Two Kelowna men Matthew Sweet Grant & Joshua McWhirter have been charged with aggravated assault after an incident last weekend where another man was set on fire.
On the afternoon of December 8th, 2012, the Kelowna RCMP were advised that an 18 year old man had received 2nd and 3rd degree burns to most of his back after being intentionally set on fire during a house party on Friday night.
The investigation revealed that the man fell asleep on the kitchen floor during the early morning hours. One man allegedly poured a liquid on the victim’s back and lit him on fire while the other filmed the incident.
Two Kelowna men, were taken into custody and charged with the offence of Aggravated Assault.They remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in Court this morning.
The victim’s family is asking that their privacy be respected while they deal with his recovery.
Based on information obtained through the course of the investigation, investigators believe that this may not be the first time one of the accused had lit someone on fire who had been incapacitated by drugs or alcohol.
