BJP leaders Bakshi Ram Arora elected Amritsar Mayor

Amritsar: The BJP high command  appointed veteran leader Bakshi Ram Arora as the Amritsar Mayor. The three-time BJP councillor’s name was proposed by SAD Chief Parliamentary Secretary Inderbir Bolaria and seconded by BJP Cabinet Minister Anil Joshi during the first meeting of the fifth Amritsar Municipal Corporation House at Town Hall.

SAD councillors Avtar Singh Truckanwala and Avinash Jolly were unanimously elected Senior Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayor, respectively. Their names were proposed by Joshi and seconded by Bolaria.

Arora has held several important positions in the past. He has served as the district president of the BJP (urban) and the Chairperson of the Improvement Trust.

Prior to the election of the Mayor and his deputies, four Congress councillors – Gurinder Rishi, Sarbjeet Laddi, Naresh Kumari and Rankanwalpreet Singh Lucky – staged a walkout in protest against the appointment of BJP’s Sukhminder Singh Pintoo as the ‘Leader of the House’.
