Chandigarh:The Punjab government has issued directions to all departments to immediately initiate dismissal or removal proceedings against employees absenting themselves from duty in an unauthorised manner.
The decision will see the ouster of at least 700 government teachers who have been on leave for the last more than six years. A majority of defaulters in this category have travelled abroad. Apart from teachers, over 200 doctors are in the list. While a majority of them had moved abroad, others have been practising locally.
Almost every government department has a list of employees who have not reported on duty from a long time. Despite the ever-expanding list of employees going abroad and never returning back, the state government had not initiated any action against them.
