Amritsar: In yet another indication of how Canada-based international drug mafia is attracting young Indo-Canadian youths to smuggle heroin from Punjab, a 22-year-old Sarabjit Singh, a Canadian national of Indian origin, was arrested while trying to smuggle 2.9 kilograms of heroin valued at around Rs 15 crore in the international market from Sri Guru Ram Das International Airport.
Sarabjit Singh was to board Jet Airways flight on way to Canada via Delhi when he was held with the drug, which was concealed in a hidden cavity made in his bag.The consignment, which was wrapped in carbon papers, was detected during X-ray examination of the luggage.
Sarabjit Singh, is a resident of Ghuna Chaur village in Nawanshahr district.Police say he was delivered the bag at Amritsar containing narcotics in which he had to put his belongings and board the plane.
Police also arrested Sarabjit’s accomplice Binda who had driven him to Amritsar from his village.
