Raman Gupta elected Bassi Pathana MC chief

Sirhind: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) candidate Raman Gupta was elected president of the Bassi Pathana municipal council, with the support of Congress councillors.

The post of president was lying vacant following the resignation of Kulbhushan Malhotra on September 25. Out of 12 councillors, 10 were present, besides local MLA Nirmal Singh, who is the ex-officio member. Gupta was declared elected as president after majority of the members raised hands in his favour.

After the election, MLA Nirmal Singh said of the 10 councillors, six belonged to the Congress, even then SAD managed to get elected its councillor Raman Gupta as council president.

Gupta’s name was proposed by the MLA and seconded by Ranbir Singh and Mohan Lal Sappal.
