Amritsar: Shiromani Gurudwara Prabhandhak Committee (SGPC) President Avtar Singh Makkar has reaffirmed the committee’s decision of constructing the Operation Blue Star Memorial in Darbar Sahib complex.
Regarding a legal notice by an Amritsar based Human Rights organisation, which is planning to file a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) at Punjab and Haryana High Court, challenging the use of word ‘martyr’ for those killed during the Operation Bluestar, the SGPC chief said, the decision to build the memorial was taken by SGPC.
“We are going to build the memorial and no one can stop the construction. If we are highlighting the valour of our community, how can it disturb the peace in Punjab?”, Makkar questioned.
He further said, those talking about revival of militancy and disturbance of peace are merely trying to politicise the issue for their own benefits.
