Faridkot: After almost four weeks after kidnapping of Shruti, Punjab police claimed to have safely rescued the minor girl, from Goa and also arrested the main accused in the case.

Nishan Singh, who had kidnapped the minor, had taken her to Goa, IG Bathinda Zone Nirmaljeet Singh Dhillon said here. Following the initial clues, a police team including a lady constable, was rushed to Goa, he said. Dhillon added that the police team arrested Nishan and safely rescued the 15-year-old girl.

The girl, a Class X student, was allegedly kidnapped in full public view by Nishan, who also fired shots in air. During the investigation, 13 persons were arrested and the fire arms and the vehicle used in the crime recovered, he said.

Police had already arrested all the other accused except Nishan Singh.

Punjab Congress had given the call for a Dharna in Faridkot on Sunday to protest the alleged failure of Punjab police in recovering Shruti.

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal had recently declared Rs 5 lakhs prize for information in the case as the ruling party was ridiculed for their failure to get the kidnapped girl traced.

Meanwhile hundreds of Congress workers sat on dharna at Faridkot led by Punjab Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh .The agitating Congressmen resorted to sloganeering against ruling Akali party and the police for trying to shield a criminal person like Nishan Singh.
