Chandigarh: A Parliamentary committee has recommended a “special NRI matrimonial law” to protect women against fraudulent NRI marriages. In a report tabled in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, the standing committee on external affairs recommended measures, including enactment of a comprehensive legislation, for protecting women against such “malicious” wedlocks. The committee asked the government to come out with a “special NRI matrimonial law” to deal with marriage, divorce, maintenance, child custody and related issues to provide “distressed and abandoned” brides their rights.
