Fatehgarh Sahib: Shiromani Akali Dal President and Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today announced the 4 laning of Chandigarh-Fatehgarh Sahib-Patiala road to accelerate the ongoing overall development of this historic city.
Addressing an impressive gathering after inducting former Congress Minister Harbans Lal in Shiromani Akali Dal, the Deputy Chief Minister said that Punjab government has initiated a unique project of Rs.13000 crore to connect every city and town of the state with 4/6 lane roads in next 3 years and with today’s announcement the people of Fatehgarh Sahib and adjoining areas would be greatly benefited with the cutting of journey time to Chandigarh as well as Patiala.
He also approved Rs.30 crore for provision of 100% sewerage coverage in the historic city besides Rs.2 crore for the beautification of Sirhind drain and developing it as a picnic spot on the pattern of Sukhna Lake. He also announced to construct a world class multi-purpose sports stadium on the name of Baba Zorawar and Baba Fateh Singh, the younger Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh Ji in the next financial year and promised to organize matches of World Kabbadi Cup 2013.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the state government was committed to bring all the holy and historic cities of the state on religious tourist circuit and to put Fatehgarh Sahib on that circuit a number of infrastructure development projects were also under active consideration of the state government. He said that the next 3 years was very crucial for the development of the state as the SAD-BJP government has chalked out an Rs.8745 crore urban development project for 142 cities and towns of the state to be implemented in this stipulated time frame.
Prem Singh Chandumajra, General Secretary SAD said that Harbans Lal was the main leader of Congress in the area and with his inclusion in SAD, the party would decimate Congress in coming Lok Sabha elections.
Prominent amongst others who spoke on the occasion included Charanjit Singh Atwal, Speaker Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Justice Nirmal Singh (Retd.) MLA, Randhir Singh Cheema, Former Minister, Ranjit Singh Talwandi and Jagjeevan Pal Singh Khirnian, both former MLAs.
