Edmonton street gang busted, 65 charges laid

Edmonton: Police have laid 65 charges against six men, for their alleged involvement in a street gang, believed to have been behind violent incidents and drug trafficking in north-east Edmonton.

Police executed a  warrant on a home on 57 Street and 136 Avenue, where they found 42 grams of cocaine ,drug trafficking paraphernalia. Police say the gang has been criminally active in the Abbottsfield and Beverly neighbourhoods for several years.

Police said they were able to crack down on the “loosely organized street gang” because they don’t want to give it any credibility but they say neighbourhood complaints led to the arrests.

Police said the investigation began after a number of complaints and tips were passed on to investigators from residents in the area affected.

After monitoring the suspects for some time, police executed a search warrant on a home in the area of 57 Street and 136 Avenue.

Six people who were also arrested are facing a total of 65 charges:

 Lee Williams, 18 – facing a number of charges, including trafficking cocaine, and possession of the proceeds of crime
 Leo Fernandez, 24 – facing a charge of trafficking marijuana, and possession of the proceeds of crime
 Winston Dickson, 25 – facing breach of recognizance charges
 Tong Akot, 20 – charged with breach of recognizance and driving while disqualified
 Ian Williams, 21 – facing charges including trafficking cocaine and possession of the proceeds of crime
 Kaylor Lawrason, 24 – facing charges of trafficking marijuana, and possession of the proceeds of crime
