Hockey coach Paul Rodgers charged with historical sexual offences

Mississauga: Investigators from the Special Victims Unit have arrested and charged a 67 year old Collingwood resident with a number of historical sexual offences committed while he lived in Mississauga.

Paul RODGERS was a volunteer house league hockey coach, predominantly with Bantam aged and younger children, with the Applewood Minor Hockey Association, and the Mississauga Minor Hockey League. He coached for approximately 12 years in the 1970’s and 1980’s. spending most of his coaching time at the Dixie Arena and Cawthra Park Arena.

During the early 1980’s, it is alleged that RODGERS committed sex – related offences against at least 2 young male hockey players, both of whom he had coached. On Friday June 29, 2012, officers from the Peel Regional Police Special Victims Unit attended RODGERS’ residence in Collingwood and arrested him for these offences.

Paul RODGERS has been charged with 2 counts of Indecent Assault on a Male, and 2 counts of Gross Indecency. He appeared for a Bail Hearing on Saturday June 30, 2012, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

Investigators are concerned that Mr. RODGERS may have victimized other hockey players during the noted time period, and are encouraging those victims to come forward and contact the police.
