Chandigarh: Tempers ran high in Faridkot amidst a protest against the police, as the parents of Shruti alleged that their daughter made a `U` turn in the court and denied to go with them due to police pressure, after the family refused a conditional visit by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.
The city residents are quite upset with the role of police and politicians in the case and two days after the recovery of abducted 15-year-old girl Shruti and her abductor Nishan Singh from Goa, the girl’s parents and Joint Action Committee (JAC) continued their month long protest against the Punjab government and police.
Members of joint Action Committee (JAC) and Shruti’s parents alleged that the previous plan was that Parkash Singh Badal would hand over the girl to the family, so Shruti made statement in court that she was ready to go to her parents and undergo medical examination.
It is learnt that Faridkot Akali leaders, along with Deputy Commissioner, approached the victim’s parents with an offer that CM wants to pay a visit to the family but on condition that no body would put any controversial question to CM during his visit.
Irked by the weird offer, Shruti’s parents and the JAC, allegedly refuted the offer and it allegedly infuriated the authorities and to teach them a lesson, Shruti was allegedly made to change her statement after that and she refused to go with her parents.
Shruti’s parents cried foul over not being able to meet her, and attributed her change of stance to threat from the abductors and their associates. The family also alleged that they were not allowed to share a single word with their daughter as the police feared that their concocted story might get exposed.
It may be mentioned though leaders of every party including Congress and People`s Party of Punjab had paid a visit to the family, the ruling party top brass including Badal senior and junior and MP Hasimrat Badal, who claims to be working for betterment of girl childs, have never bothered to meet the agitating family and residents.
Meanwhile the incident has added fuel to the fire and the protest has been intensified in Faridkot.A protest rally was taken out by a social organisation today to express disappointment over the alleged mishandling of the abduction case.
The protestors also set ablaze the effigy of Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal and demanded that the girl be handed over to the family and strict punishment for Nishan Singh Brar and the cops, who allegedly made Shruti to change her statement.
The protestors will decide the next course of action on October 26 in Bathinda.
Shruti, a Class X student, was allegedly kidnapped at gunpoint from Faridkot on September 24 in full public view by Nishan Singh and his accomplices.Punjab police claimed to trace the girl from Goa and arrested the kidnapper on Sunday. She was produced in a local court and was sent to Jalandhar Nari Niketan yesterday.
The dubious role of the Punjab police and some ruling party politicians in projecting the abduction as a love story and elopement has left the residents upset and nobody is believing the elopement theory of Punjab police saying that Shruti was dragged by hairs , shots were fired, her parents were beaten , so there was no question that Shruti went with Nishan as per her will.
Sacheva family and JAC say they would continue to sit on dharna in Faridkot and protest till the time Nishan Singh is aptly punished.
Nishan Singh, was meanwhile sent in police remand till October 27.
Shruti is in Jalandhar Nari Niketan and nobody, even the media persons are not allowed to talk to her.
